Things to do in Nottingham

What is there to do in and around Nottingham? Please add below any knowledge of the city that other conference-goers might find useful. We've set up a couple of categories, feel free to add more.

Eating out in Nottingham

  • The area around Jubilee Campus is not the best place to look for good food and drink, but it is easy to get a bus into town from either end of the campus; the journey only takes about ten minutes. In town there are many eating places, depending on your taste and budget you may wish to start in the area around the Cornerhouse, which houses a number of chains, including Wagamama, Nandos, Pizza Hut and Strada. There are also some decent places to go for a drink around that area, although for those who prefer an old-fashioned pub atmosphere, The Bell on the Old Market Square is recommended for a decent pint. There is also a Keralan restaurant called Kayal on Broad Street, which is highly regarded, if you can find it!

Things to do and see

  • Also on Broad Street is one of Nottingham's gems - the Broadway Media Centre. If you fancy seeing a film, and are not attracted by Hollywood blockbusters, this is the place to start, as they show a decent range of films from around the world, and also have a very pleasant cafe-bar. Nottingham Castle may be worth a visit, sitting on a big sandstone rock overlooking the south side of the city; Wollaton Park (about two miles in the opposite direction from Jubilee Campus) is the best place to go if the weather is good, with large areas to walk around, play frisbee or have a kick-about, or simply watch the deer; there is also a Natural History Museum in Wollaton Hall.
